A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at Galloway Memorial Chapel Episcopal Church, 312 West Main Street, Elkin, N.C. The family will receive friends following the service in the church. &bsp;

Mr. Blackburn was born in Elkin on December 19, 1942 to Grant and Lucille Garris Blackburn. He was a graduate of Elkin High School and High Point College. He worked in the banking industry until he retired in the late 1990s.

Mr. Blackburn is survived by his mother, Lucille B. Luffman of Elkin, brother, Edward S. Blackburn (Barbara, wife) of Raleigh, N.C., son Charles G. Blackburn (Margaret, wife; Grant and Grace, children) of Columbia, S.C., and daughter Charlotte A. Waldron (Azzedienne, daughter) of Charlotte, N.C. Also surviving are Mr. Blackburn&squo;s nieces, Marion Blackburn (Greg) of Greenville, N.C., and Walton Spoor (Richard; Matilda, daughter) of Raleigh, N.C., aunts and uncles, Helen Garris of Elkin, Lillian and Dick Garris of Rhonda, N.C., Pat and RV Garris of Roaring River, N.C., Opal and Stanley Nichols of Lexington, N.C., Rosa Lee and Philip Mathis of Roaring Gap, N.C., and Peggy and Billy Frank Carter of Charlotte, N.C. He was preceded in death by his father, Eli Grant Blackburn, aunt, Lavada Blackburn, and uncle, John Blackburn, aunt, Mary Wiles, uncle, Manuel Garris, and uncle, Louis Everett Garris.
