Martha B. May

A native of Rocky River, Ohio, she was born the daughter of the late Walter H. and Martha Reiser Manns. She had previously resided in Oregon, Indiana, Ohio, Wilmette, Ill., and had retired to Grantham, N.H. for 12 years prior to moving to Tryon, where she has lived for the past ten years.

Mrs. May was devoted to her husband and a wonderful mother to her four sons. She was a talented painter and enjoyed interior decorating, home design, golf and her church. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Tryon Painters and Sculptors.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Rev. Nicholas May; a brother, Walter J. Manns (Joanne) of Rocky River, Ohio; four sons, N. Bradford May (Shirley) of Vienna, Va., Jonathan W. May, of Jacksonville, Fla., Robin L. May (Peggy) of Stone Mountain, Ga., Joel A. May (Angela) of South Elgin, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Susannah May, Samuel May, Jason May, Christina May, Lindsey May, Leslie May, and Nick May.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Greg Williams. The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m.. prior to the service at the church.
