Kenneth Marion Powers

He was born in Landrum, S.C., July 9, 1947. His parents were Edward Lee Powers and Florence Pauline Powers, both now deceased. Kenny Powers is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Landrum and his daughter, Lou Ann Leonard and her three sons of Chesapeake, Va.

Kenny was a Navy veteran. He was well known for his stunt man career on the racetrack circuit. His most memorable jump was the 1981 rocket car jump attempt across the St. Lawrence River from Canada to New York.

His cremation was done by Riverside Funeral Home in Newport News, Va.

A Celebration in Remembrance of the Life of Kenny Powers will be held on Saturday, April 4 in the shed at Harmon Field in Tryon, N.C. Videos of Kenny&squo;s jumps&bsp; will be shown from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. The ceremony wil begin at 3:30 p.m. Pastor Scottie Epps will say the opening and closing prayers. Chad Campbell will sing an inspirational song. Kenny&squo;s former football coach, Cecil Younce, will present the tribute.

After the ceremony, there will be hot dogs and oldies music will be played. If you plan to come and stay for hot dogs, please call Beverly Powers at 457-4454.
