Born in Monson, Ma., he was the son of the late Albert Gustin and Clara Linden Jaeger. Al developed and patented a steam bleaching process of cotton and rayon yarn that would allow 36 launderings without the shade changing appearance. In 1943 Mr. Jaeger developed for the U.S. Air Force an 85 percent abrasion improvement of glazed cotton yarns used for braided insulation containment for signal & control wiring of war planes, fighters and bombers. In 1955 he founded Carolina Yarn Processors in Tryon, employing up to 128 locals. He owned and operated CYP until his retirement in 1986.&bsp; Mr. Jaeger served for 21 years as a local board member of NationsBank, which later became part of Bank of America. He was an Eagle Scout, avid tennis player, stamp collector and a member of the Germany Philatelic Society, serving as the president for two years and remaining on the board since 1997.

Surviving are: his wife of 49 years, Ann Green Jaeger, four sons, Albert F. W. Jaeger Jr. of Deerfield, N.H.; Robert L. Jaeger (Jacquelin) of Greene, R.I.; Jeffrey W. Jaeger (Cristiane) of Stoneville, N.C. and Frederick W. Jaeger (Christina) of Clearwater, Fla.; two daughters, Stephanie Ann Jaeger, MD, of Pullman, Wash., and Pamela J. Palmore (Ron) of Gasburg, Va. Also surviving are four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Darryl E. Maxwell officiating. &bsp;
