He was the son of the late Ira and Geneva Compton Stemen and husband of Armenda &dquo;Mendy&dquo; Kessinger Stemen.

He retired from Spartanburg Steel Products and was a veteran.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Tom, Mike and Paul Stemen all of Michigan, and Brian Hunter of Harrison, Ohio; two daughters, Carla Hunter of Fountain Inn, S.C., Jaime Jackson (Chris) of Mill Spring; a brother, Jim Stemen of Michigan; seven grandchildren, Chasity McNeely, Brittney Hunter, Morgan Hunter, Shaun Moore, Austin Jackson, Chase Jackson and Miya Jackson; and a great grandchild.

He was predeceased by a son, Dick Stemen.

Memorial services were held Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Petty Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. Ansel Pace.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, 120 Heywood Ave., Suite 300, Spartanburg, S.C. 29302.
