Super Saturday fills downtown with arts &Harmon Field Heritage

Today Now that the weather is hedging toward spring, it&squo;s a perfect time to take an evening stroll to rediscover downtown. End your wanderings in Tryon with some refreshment for your palate with the sounds of Susan Bennett on the piano and a tasty bite to eat at Lilac Wine from 5-9 p.m. Up in Saluda you&squo;ll find Faysooux McLean & Brandon Turner at The Purple Onion in Saluda with a menu that ranges from simple fare to fine dining starting at 7 p.m. &bsp; &bsp; Friday Gather the whole family for a fun evening of dancing at the Tryon Youth Center with the Music Makers. These local gems will have you doing everything from swing and shag to salsa and two-stepping with their wide range of repertoire. John Tyndal will be entertaining the room on the piano at Lilac Wine from 5-9 p.m. &bsp; Saturday The yellow banners are waving from every lamp post in celebration of the 31st annual Super Saturday Children&squo;s Theatre Festival. From 9 a.m. ‐ 4 p.m. downtown revives the Wild Wild West with arts performances and activities for all ages. The information booth and tickets are available on Melrose Avenue in front of the Tryon Fine Arts Center. Dress up as your favorite cowboy and join the parade round-up to strut your stuff down Melrose Avenue or just hitch yourself to a spot on the sidewalk at 12:30 p.m. to watch the fun. Marianne Carruth has done a fine job of wrangling up a star studded line up of performers that present both educational and highly entertaining feats for the eyes and ears. Tarradiddle Players return with the classic story Commedia Aladdin. Get roped in with Chris McDaniel&squo;s Wild West Show. Laugh at the comedic and juggling antics of Pete Geist and Brothers from Different Mothers. Explore the sciences with DinoRock&squo;s Dinosaurs Forever or Hobey Ford&squo;s Animalia. Then take off to another culture like India with Spilling Ink or Africa with Baba Jamal Koram. Step back in time this weekend over at Harmon Field with Heritage Days from 9 a.m. ‐ 9 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. ‐ 4 p.m. on Sunday. Tryon Arts & Crafts will be offering their Spring Open House and Student Show featuring artisan demonstrations in weaving, pottery, lapidary, silversmithing, wood turning, and blacksmithing. Outside, Confederates and Yankees will take to the field and set up camp. Explore the world of the Civil War as they act out everything from basic drills and a wedding to battle scenes from the war. Join Kathleen Carson for a fun introduction to classic American tap dancing at Tryon Fine Arts Center and learn how to soft shoe along with Gene Kelly. Depending on the class interest you may find yourself shuffling off to buffalo or picking up the newest moves by learning the Jai Ho dance.
