Saluda board to hold marathon retreat this weekend

Saluda commissioners have a lot to talk about this weekend as the city has planned a three-day retreat.

The retreat will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at the Saluda Public Library. Friday is scheduled to end at 10 p.m. Then on Saturday, commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. and tentatively end at 4 p.m. On Sunday, the retreat begins at 2 p.m. with no defined end time.

The retreat includes a five-page agenda with Friday night focusing on defining the Saluda community, the city&squo;s resources and spiritual community. Friday will also include discussions on defining the city&squo;s challenges.

Saturday includes budget status and economy, long range and capital improvement plans and discussions on a park system, transportation, parking, sidewalks and specialty lanes, administration (including Saluda&squo;s financial condition, policy enforcement and gaps), recommended zoning ordinance changes, extraterritorial jurisdiction and partnering with other towns and counties among other items.

Sunday afternoon will be a wrap-up of the weekend, with final statements from each commissioner and a statement of budget goals.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend the retreat.
