The program encourages all who take part in it to be a positive part of today&squo;s society.

The program featured a formal Mr. and Miss Mahogany pageant, and additional entertainment from special guests CEC Fellowship Choir led by director Darius Fuller, the Southern Dance Academy led by instructors Misty Harrison, Sheena Camp and Kristin Hill, and Clap Your Hands by Joshua&squo;s Troop.

A total of eight Polk County High School students performed a talent portion of the program and completed a question and answer session that focused on current political events, personal heroes and young peoples&squo; views.

Students Molly Gary, LeToya Twitty and Jimmy Twitty sang the National Anthem and Minister Lila Jackson offered the opening prayer prior to the pageant. Ms. Millie Miller provided a welcome message and students Tori Miller and Raneisha Simmons gave an overview of the history of the pageant. Pastor Eleanor Miller of New Zion CME provided reflections for the evening and Pastor Arnie Twitty provided the closing prayer.

Students who participated in the pageant were: seniors Jimmy Twitty, Jimeka McBeth, Julisa Jackson, Mayette Young and Mariah Gary; sophomores Rolanda Dawkins and Deshae Miller; and freshman Tyreke Hannon.

The students sang, recited poems (in English and French), and painted during the talent demonstrations.

The entire program was reflective and spiritual in tone as the students commemorated Black History Month and Dr. King&squo;s vision. Edward Miller, Lila Jackson and Angela Carson served as judges.
