H-K-T ends Lady Cardinals state title bid

But H-K-T (22-3) showed why it is ranked first in the state in the second half, outscoring Landrum 46-28 to earn a 77-65 victory.

Up 37-31 at halftime, Landrum was looking like a giant-killer for the second time in as many games, as they had previously knocked off no. 1 seed Indian Land on Thursday.

The Lady Cards forced 13 first half turnovers Monday night, and McDowell hit five threes in the first two quarters.

The second half was a different story, as H-K-T managed to slow McDowell defensively while significantly amping up their offense. Still, Landrum drew within three at 68-65 with about three minutes to go, but they were unable to regain the lead.

H-K-T&squo;s all-state backcourt of Melinda Bremfield and 1A player of the year Shalika Smalls combined for 52 points on the night.

McDowell finished with 26 points, and Kelly Mullins added 16 for Landrum. Jordan Jenkins and Jordan Corn had 10 and nine, respectively.

It was a remarkable season for the Lady Cardinals, especially considering they dropped six of their first nine games of the year. They were 15-2 the rest of the season.
