Tryon to pay for open-air gym roof with fund balance

Tryon Town Council decided on Tuesday to pay for a new roof for the Harmon Field open-air gym out of its fund balance.

The town previously agreed to finance the approximately $40,000 repair, but because&bsp; the financing require N.C. Local Government Commission (LGC) approval, which would take too much time, council decided to pay for the repair in cash.

Plans are for the town to allow Harmon Field to borrow the money and pay it back through a 1/2 cent tax increase the recreational facility is hoping to be granted this year from Polk County. The Polk County Board of Commissioners has also agreed to fund up to $13,000 of the roof repair, so the town will need approximately $27,000 to pay the remainder.
