Tryon Fire Chief Joey Davis says 14 agencies assisted Tryon in putting out the recent 50-acre brush fire off Hwy. 176 in the Pacolet Valley. Agencies that assisted include the Columbus, Saluda, Mill Spring, Green Creek, Landrum, Campobello, Gowensville and Boiling Springs fire departments, the Polk County Rescue Squad, Polk County Sheriff&squo;s Office, Tryon Police Department, North Carolina Forestry Service, and Polk County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Chief Davis adds that Paul Dale of Foothills Mountain BBQ prepared numerous sandwiches and gallons of hot chocolate and coffee at no cost to all emergency responders. Davis says people whose homes were in the path of the fire also provided valuable help, reporting the fire&39;s progression and helping at their homes.
