Lady Wolverines hold on for victory over Madison

The Lady Wolverines beat Madison 74-69, but he wasn&squo;t thrilled.

&dquo;In the first three quarters we played the way we were supposed to, but then we quit,&dquo; he said after the game.

Kiki Miller dominated in the first half and led the Lady Wolverines to a 38-24 lead. Miller scored 12 of her game-high 24 points in the first half.&bsp; Kaitlin Franks scored 11 of her 22 points in the first half.

In the third quarter, however, the Lady Patriots slowly mounted a comeback.When the third quarter buzzer sounded, Madison was down 58-41.

Madison&squo;s hot streak continued at the start of the fourth quarter. The Lady Patriots scored 11 straight points to start the quarter. Polk&squo;s first points came on free throws from Miller over two minutes in.

Then the Lady Wolverines began pressing. Kayla Byrd began to disrupt the Lady Patriots defensively.

&dquo;Her job is to play defense and create havoc with the other players,&dquo; Davis said.

She did just that. She had a steal, drew a flagrant foul and hit four free throws down the stretch to help the Lady Wolverines hang on.

Brandy McDowell added eight points for Polk County.
