James Smith, an employee with the Town of Columbus, was honored last week by Columbus Town Council for being named the Outstanding Rescue Person of the Year 2008 in Polk County. Smith received the recognition from the Polk County Rescue Squad for having completed all training and for responding to an exceptionally high call volume. Town council approved a resolution in honor of Smith, who has been working with the town since 2004.
