He was retired from Barnett-Southern.

He is survived by three sons, Fred Cox of Landrum, Johnny Cox of Campobello and Dennis Joe Cox of Landrum; two daughters, Shirley Case and Louise Brock, both of Columbus; a brother, David Cox of Chesnee, S.C.; a sister, Ruby Counts of Chesnee; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was predeceased by a son, James Cox.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at Petty Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. Bobby Pierce. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is at the home of Mildred Cox, 403 Earle St., Landrum.
