He was a native of the Motlow Creek Community of Spartanburg County and had lived here for most of his life. He was the son of the late William Dockins and Lucy Gosnell Brashears and was the last of the family of nine children.

Brashears was a member of Evangel Cathedral of Spartanburg, where he was an Usher until his health failed. He was a musician and played the guitar and was fond of all types of music. He was a decorated WWII Veteran with the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He fought in North Africa and the Italy Campaigns, where he was wounded at a location named Campobella.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Lula McAbee Brashears of the home; two sons Bennie C.&bsp; Brashears and Douglas A. Brashears, both of the Motlow Creek Community, Campobello; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Ernest and Alfred, all of Spartanburg County; five sisters, Mildred Collins, Vera George, Elver Bradley, and Onell Brashears, all of Spartanburg County, and Ruth Clayton of Morristown, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Petty Funeral Chapel, Landrum,&bsp; with Revs. Jan King and Jerry Clevenger officiating. Burial will be in the Ft. Prince Memorial Gardens.
