Doris Gordon

She was born Jan. 1, 1926 in Wyckoff, N.J. After a brief career in New York City, N.Y., she was married to William F. Gordon in 1947. They raised three children in Wyckoff where Doris was active with the Wyckoff Reformed Church choir and Women&squo;s Guild, as a Girl Scout leader and as a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. &bsp;

After a move to the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania in 1969, she became an active member and president of the Pocono Mountain Garden Club. The couple also spent time at their winter home in Pompano Beach, Fla., and their summer cottage in Monmouth, Maine. In 2002, the Gordons moved to Tryon Estates, where Doris was active with several Music Society galas and the long-range planning committee. She sang with the Tryon Estates Chorus and enjoyed croquet, shuffleboard, bocce ball and hiking.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, William F. Gordon; her daughter Kim Gordon and her husband, Richard Sewell of Waterville, Maine; her daughter Karyl Gordon-Darley of Boca

Raton, Fla.; a grandson, Gavin Sewell of New York City; a granddaughter, Bronwyn Sewell of Boston, Mass.; a grandson, William Darley of Adelaide, Australia; a brother, Warren Seitz of Pittsboro, N.C. She was predeceased by her son, William F. Gordon Jr.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Tryon Estates Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Building 1, Asheville, N.C. 28801.
