Tommy Radford

Born in Asheville, he was the son of Richard E. and Louise Palmer Radford of Landrum. He was a graduate of Tryon High School Class of 1978. Tommy graduated from UNC Charlotte with a B.A. in business administration. He was a former county manager for Polk County.

Moving to Columbia, S.C., in 1994, he was currently the area manager for Fresenius Medical Care Dialysis Services in Columbia. Active in coaching both baseball and basketball for the past 12 years for Irmo Little League and Friarsgate Basketball Association, he currently was the assistant coach for the Carolina Troopers Traveling Baseball Team of Columbia, and was the manager of the Diamond Devils Baseball Team of Charleston, S.C. He was also dedicated to the Dutch Fork High School baseball and football teams. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife of 23 years, Karen Greene Radford, one son, Matthew and one daughter Katlyn, all of the home; a sister, Denise Appleyard (David) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and niece and nephew, Jennifer and Drew, all of Winston-Salem; one sister-in-law, Ginger Stone (David) and niece Megan, all of Lake Lanier, S.C.; one brother-in-law, Van T. Greene Jr. (Sharon) and nieces and nephews, Angela, Brian, Jason, Justin Greene and&bsp; Leigh Nodine; a father-in-law, Van T. &dquo;Pop&dquo; Greene Sr., all of Landrum. Also a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, with Dr. Bill Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Landrum. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday prior to the service in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Tommy Radford Scholarship Fund, C/O First Baptist Church of Tryon, P. O. Box 1287, Tryon, N.C. 28782 or to the Dutch Fork High School baseball program, 1400 Old Tamah Road, Irmo, S.C. 29063. &bsp;

The family will be at the home of Richard and Louise Radford, 195 Earles Fort Road, Landrum.
