Fowler was a native of Spartanburg County and a son of the late William C. and Mary Jane Stephens Fowler. He was a retired employee of Crown Cork and Seal and a member of Chesnee Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by a son, Steve Fowler of Chesnee; a daughter, Darlene Russ of Chesnee; a brother, Curtis Fowler of Boiling Springs; four sisters, Cathleen Robinson of Saluda, Beulah Jones of Wellford, S.C., Faye McKinney and Jane McKinney of Spartanburg. Three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive him. He was predeceased by one granddaughter, four brothers, and four sisters.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 at Chesnee Freewill Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. James Childers and Rev. Roger Green. Interment was in Good Shepherd Memorial Park.
