He was a retired Professional Golf Association member and also a retired golf superintendent. He was also a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Burns and Lillian Burns of North Carolina, and a brother, R.C. Bud Burns of Selma, Ala.

Mr. Burns is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cleoneke &dquo;Nicky&dquo; Burns; also a daughter, Shari Sullivan of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Billy Burns of Florence, Ala.; and a son, Gerald Burns of Carrollton, Texas; also, five grandchildren, Rachael and Trey Burns of Florence, Ala., Ryan Sullivan, United States Coast Guard, Scot Sullivan of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Douglas Charles Burns of Carrollton, Texas. Also brothers and sisters, Christopher Burns of Alabama, Arlee Graham of South Carolina, J.L. Burns of Alabama, Hazel Morgan of Tryon, and Helen of South Carolina.

There will be no viewing and there will be a memorial service held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to the Community Cancer Center of North Florida, or Hospice of Gainesville.
