Using his scientific-oriented brain, the new coach can rattle of his team&squo;s stats almost immediately after a game.

The most important thing for his team this season,however, will not be something that he can calculate on paper.

&dquo;My philosophy is to build a program around hard work and teamwork,&dquo; he said. &dquo;I believe in playing everybody on the team as long as they will not hurt the team.&dquo;

There is one thing fans will be able to count on this season with the Lady Wolverines.

Their style of play will be exciting.

According to Davis, his team doesn&squo;t have an official starting lineup and he wants to keep it that way. Afterall, it doesn&squo;t matter.

He&squo;s going to play everyone.

With the style of play he&squo;ll bring to the court, it will take the entire team playing.

Davis is going to conentrate on speed, hard work and his players getting up and down the floor.

There will be no room for any other attitude than a &dquo;team&dquo; attitude.

Davis was a part of the Polk County men&squo;s basketball team that finished runnerup in the state finals in the mid-1990&squo;s.

Davis returned to Polk County after graduating from North Carolina State.

He began coaching basketball at Saluda with the girls&squo; team. After three years caoching at Saluda, he moved to Polk County high school and was head coach of the junior varsity girls&squo; team and was varsity assistant. He did that for four years.

And now he feels blessed to be coaching the varsity women&squo;s team at Polk County.

He takes over for Chris Mintz who left Polk to go to Cherokee High School at the end of last season.

&dquo;I know that this is an opportunity to affect the lives of young people,&dquo; Davis said. &dquo;Basketball can be a big tool for doing that if I approach it the right way.&dquo;

The Lady Wolverines began their season against Robbinsville on Tuesday night.
