Mary Garner

She was born in Landrum on May 27, 1941 to Atlee Long Huggins and Mary Porter Elledge (both deceased). She earned degrees from Berea College in Kentucky, Converse College in Spartanburg, and Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. Linda was married to Gary McKinley Garner Jr. for 34 years, until his death in 2005. She was employed by Spartanburg County District 2 Schools as a math teacher at Boiling Springs High School, where she taught for 36 years.

Linda was a lifelong member of Landrum United Methodist Church, where she was active in the choir and volunteer work. She was also active in both the Polk County Community Chorus, and the South Carolina Tuesday Reading Garden Club, where she had served as a past president.

She is survived by her three sons, Gary M. Garner III, Atlee A. Garner, and Joseph F. Garner, and their wives with ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her niece, Mary &dquo;Sissy&dquo; Sheehan and her family; as well as her sister, Joan Wall and family, her brother, Norrel Huggins, and her nephews, John &dquo;Butch&dquo; Morgan and Richard Morgan and their respective families.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 25 at 11 a.m. at Landrum United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jane Jenkins will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Evergreen Memorial Garden in Landrum.

The family is at the home.
