Freda Bass

Born in Paterson, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Bessie Goldman Goldstein. She was the widow of Harry Bass, who died in 1961.

Mrs. Bass was a resident of Polk County for 4&rac12; years, coming from New York City, N.Y. She was on the dodge ball championship team in high school and won an award for typing in high school. She was in the first graduating class of her high school and finished third in her class. She was head bookkeeper accountant to the Molina Silk Company in Paterson, N.J. In her later professional career, she was a sales marketing cosmetician for Dorothy Gray Company.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Bass and his wife Leslie of River Head, N.Y., and Alan Bass and his wife Leslie of Livingston, N.J.;&bsp; one daughter, Marcia Seiden of Columbus; and one sister, Ruth Altman of Palatka, Fla.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Hilary Carman, Lisa Metcalf and her husband Saul, David Bass, Mitchell Bass and wife, Carrie Bass, Kyle Bass, Lauren Bass, and Jordan Bass; eight great-grandchildren, Samantha, Sydney Metcalf, Jarrod Carman, Oliver, Elizabeth, Tyler, Erin and Joshua Bass.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Seiden.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, 2008 in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Monday in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon.
