Nativity workshop Saturday at Tryon Arts & Crafts.

Simply Irresistible would like to remind you to stop by before the end of the week if you havent seen the full display of work from their current show Colorscapes which closes this weekend. As the holidays approach the gallery has new work from a variety of artists in the region arriving daily.
Friday
Join Tryon Painters & Sculptors for the opening of their annual Members Show in Gallery I as well as Jo-Ann Close in Gallery Too from 5-7 p.m. at Tryon Fine Arts Center. The TP&S Members Show will include work from a wide variety of local artists working in various mediums. This is a wonderful chance to sample a variety of work from the area. Closes show will feature her work with pastels.
Afterwards, enjoy the lively tunes of Fred Whiskin on piano at the Purple Onion 7-9 p.m.
If youre looking for something to do with the whole family or want to move your teenagers band practice out of the house for the evening, check out the new club in the county with an Ultimate Basement at 5965 NC 9 N. in Mill Spring. They offer an Open Jam tonight 7 p.m. midnight. This is an all ages, family friendly venue. The phones are down, but you can contact them for more information at hightechheaven.net.
Saturday
For some theatre on a grand scale, take a short drive this weekend to the next county for the Civil War Reenactment at Green River Plantation located at 6333 Coxe Road in Rutherfordton 9 a.m. 8 p.m. and also Sunday from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. The Carolina Foothills Historical Reenactment Society will be recreating Stonemans raid on Asheville complete with infantry, cavalry, and artillery. Other highlights include a fashion show and formal ball of period dress, blacksmithing, storytelling, as well as military camps depicting the life during the war. Feeling the need to keep your hands busy? Why not get started on the holidays by attending the nativity in clay workshop with Nancy Heim 9 a.m. noon at Tryon Arts & Crafts. The second half of the workshop will be next Saturday November 22 at the same time. Learn more by calling 828-859-8323. All ages welcome.
For a chance to see where visual and performance art meet, at 3 p.m. plan to attend the Joseph Cashore workshop at Tryon Fine Arts Center. Take the opportunity to meet the man behind the strings and learn how award winning artist Mr. Cashore creates and develops these beautiful puppets and then gives them life on stage. Consider having dinner downtown and then be sure to return to TFAC for a magical evening that blends elements of dance, theatre, and music with the Cashore Marionettes at 8 p.m.
After the show, shake a leg with Red Dog & Dog Fight Blues Band at Elmos. Theyll get started at about 9 p.m. and heat up downtown with old school blues that will keep you dancing all night long.

If you prefer a more intimate evening, consider dinner between 8-10 p.m. at the Purple Onion with the beautiful harmonies of Menage. This sweet blend of talented musicians from Asheville shares a treasure trove of original tunes.
If you feel adventurous, go check out the Cold Turkey Blues Band from 7 p.m. midnight at the Ultimate Basement in Mill Spring.
Sunday
Dont miss the final FENCE Family Concert of the season with Sparkle City Brass at 4 p.m. This talented quintet of brass players will share a variety of pieces from Dukas to Duke Ellington and Bach to Fats Waller. This is a wonderful chance to bring the whole family to hear quality live music for free.
