Smith died Wednesday,

Oct. 29, 2008. Born in Columbia, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Walter Eugene and Sophia Blakely McNulty. She attended Columbia city schools and the University of South Carolina. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Wisteria Garden Club and Palmetto Garden Club.

Smith was a member of St. Martin&squo;s-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church. During the summer she attended Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Saluda, N.C., which was central to her life as a second home since childhood.

Surviving are sons, Alex Dickson Jr. of Lexington, Eugene Dickson of Saluda, Blakely Dickson of Saluda; daughter, Eliza Dickson of Saluda; stepchildren, Lesesne Smith of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Alice Waddill and Clara Carter, both of Saluda, and Dr. Ravenel Smith of Spartanburg; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Alex A. Dickson; her second husband, Dr. D. Lesesne Smith; sister, Mary Robertson; and brothers, W.E. McNulty Jr., Dr. R.B. McNulty and William McNulty.
