She died at home after a brief illness.

She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Cowan) Griffaw. She was born in Charteroak, Mo. She moved to Ohio around 1945 and resided there until she moved to North Carolina to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Charles Milam. Ella retired as a pediatric nurse at Providence Hospital in Sandusky, Ohio.

She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Landrum.

Ella is survived by her son, Edgar (Evelyn ) Schuessler of Sandusky, Ohio, a daughter, Betty (Charles) Milam of Green Creek, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, three sisters, one brother, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Pitsenburg, great-grandson, Jacob Austin, two stepsons, one brother and three sisters.

There will be a memorial service for those who could not attend the funeral and burial in Sandusky, Ohio, which was held Oct. 4, 2008. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Southside Baptist, 445 Sunset Rd., Landrum, S.C. The Reverend John Fortner will be officiating.
