Polk County has already seen a huge turnout of early voters for this November&squo;s election, with 1,308 casting votes in the first three days.

Polk County this year has three early voting locations:

&ull; Board of elections office on the second floor at the Womack building in Columbus (opposite the historic courthouse)

&ull; Green Creek Family Life Center, 2382 Cox Road

&ull; Mill Spring Fire Department, 66 School Road, Mill Spring.

Residents may vote at any location for early voting, regardless of the precinct in which they reside.

One-stop voting began last Thursday. As of noon yesterday, 1,000 people had voted at the board of elections office, 196 had voted at the Green Creek Family Life Center and 112 had voted at the Mill Spring Fire Department.

You can register to vote at one-stop voting locations as long as you also cast your vote at that time. You will not be able to register at polling places on Nov. 4.

One-stop voting will continue until Saturday, Nov. 1. All locations will be open that Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Currently, one-stop voting can be done Monday through Friday at the board of elections office from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. and at the Mill Spring Fire Department and Green Creek Family Life Center from noon until 7 p.m.

Absentee ballots are also being taken by the board of elections office until Oct. 28. The last day to return absentee ballots will be Nov. 3.

One-stop voting this year is predicted to be the highest ever, both locally and around the country. During the last presidential election, 3,904 Polk County residents cast early votes.
