Goats eating kudzu in Tryon again

On Wednesday, the goats returned, but this time only ten came and they will be staying for only ten days.
The expectation is for the goats this time to eat the kudzu and other weeds that have grown back since the first goats came to clear the property.
The first goats that came uncovered trash that was hidden underneath the kudzu and the town hopes that the ten goats will clear out what has grown back so that it will be easier to clean out the trash and debris.
The town plans to clean the area on Saturday, Oct. 4 as part of the annual Big Sweep clean up day.
The town is experimenting with the goats eradicating the kudzu in that area specifically because the area has two streams running through it so other kudzu eradication measures, such as spraying chemicals, would be environmentally unsafe. The town plans one day to create a greenway with one of the areas being at the corner of Carolina Drive and U.S. 176.
The goat eradication is also&bsp; less expensive than chemicals. The town previously spent about $600 for the month of work by the 20 goats.
The goat owners, who specialize in providing goats for kudzu and other unwanted growth eradication, have said that it normally takes three sessions of goats eating the kudzu for it to be totally eradicated.
