Quinn was a passenger in the front seat and was ejected from the sunroof, according to Robin Forrest, chief investigator with the Spartanburg County Coroner&squo;s Office. Quinn was riding home from school with the other students for the first time, Forrest said. Usually, Quinn&squo;s father picked him up or he rode a bus to another person&squo;s house after school.

&dquo;(Quinn) played the banjo,&dquo; Forrest said, &dquo;and actually played for a church youth group.&dquo;

Quinn was an active member of Motlow Creek Baptist Church and was said to have been baptized there just six months ago.

Allen is said to have suffered severe brain and head trauma as well as many other injuries and is in ICU, according to the Motlow Creek Baptist Church website. The church website also says Starnes suffered a &dquo;cracked neck&dquo; but is talking, although as of Wednesday night he didn&squo;t know the severity of Quinn and Allen&squo;s injuries.

S.C. State Highway Patrol troopers said that the car went off the right side of the road and overturned. Speed could be a factor and the accident is under investigation.

Landrum High School was open late Wednesday with counselors and pastors from the area brought in to help students and faculty deal with the tragic accident. Landrum High School Principal Brian Sherman said yesterday that the S.C. Highway Patrol Crisis Response Team had visited the school to talk with students. In addition, 10 different ministers from the community and six school counselors from other areas also came to school Thursday to speak with students.

Students who wanted to talk about the loss have had a chance to do that, Sherman said, and students who were upset yesterday were allowed to go home.

&dquo;We&squo;ve had an unbelievable amount of support from the community,&dquo; said Sherman.

Sherman says Quinn was very active in church and very outgoing. Some friends of Quinn&squo;s at the scene Wednesday evening described the red haired student as very funny and full of joy.

&dquo;He was a very fun student and full of life. Very active, very outgoing,&dquo; Sherman said &dquo;It&squo;s a devastating loss for our school and our community.&dquo;

The accident occurred just before 4 p.m. about four miles from Landrum High School on Hwy. 357 near the Patterson Road intersection in Campobello. The road was closed Wednesday evening while investigators examined the scene. The students were in a 1990 red Acura Integra that still had a 45-day plate on it. The car landed well into the woods and was badly damaged.

The Motlow Creek Baptist Church website said as of early Thursday morning Allen was still in critical condition in the intensive care unit but that he had moved his arms and legs.

The church is asking for everyone to pray for all the victims and their families and was scheduled to be open last night for community counseling.
