Mr. Worthington was born in New York, N.Y. He was the son of the late George Herbert Worthington Jr. and Aida Adda Worthington. He graduated from the Choate School in Wallingford, Conn., and attended Brown University before enlisting in the Navy. Mr. Worthington was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Great Neck, N.Y.

Surviving is his wife, Janet Bethel Worthington, and three children, Lorraine Mosca of Columbus, George Worthington IV of Piedmont S.C., Frank Henry Worthington of Tryon, a sister, Elvira Taylor of Charlotte, N.C., and six grandchildren and four nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. at the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon.
