Born in Transylvania County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Norman and Nellie Allison Sensing. Mrs. Smith was a member of Lynn First Baptist Church in Lynn.

Survivors include her husband, Jackson Smith; two sons, Jeffrey Smith of Mill Spring, and Kevin Smith of Rutherfordton; two daughters, Pamela Edwards of Columbia, S.C., and Beth Lucas (Ethan) of Goode, Va.; six grandchildren, Jill Greene, Hannah and Caleb Edwards; Brock, Cassidy and Kendall Lucas; two great grandchildren, Brandt Greene and Journey Blounts. Also surviving are two brothers, Richard and Robert Sensing, and two sisters, Becky Rampey and Marcia Jevedon.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, with Rev. Jimmy Owens officiating.

Burial will held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Beaver Dam Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, Candler, N.C.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
