He was the husband of Edith Denton Thompson for 61 years and son of the late Otto and Mamie McMurry Thompson.

He was a member of Morgan Chapel Baptist Church and retired from Southern Mercerizing after 48 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gerald Thompson; two daughters, Diane Arnett (Bucky) and Joyce Scoggins (Phil) of Campobello; a sister, Ruth Foster of Columbus; seven grandchildren, James Thompson (Jennifer), Joann Randolph (Shannon), Brent and Lucas Scoggins and Garrison, Ivy and Jeffrey Arnett.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Waitsel and Claude Thompson and a sister, Ollie Luther.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Petty Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Tom Frady and Mr. Phil Scoggins.&bsp; Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home.
