A public hearing was set for both issues. The speed limit public hearing will be held during the town&squo;s September meeting and the truck route issue public hearing was set for the town&squo;s October meeting.

Columbus Town Manager Tim Holloman said Columbus Police Chief Butch Kennedy suggested reducing the Hwy. 108 speed limit to council and he had said in the past that if the speed limit was 25, then that may slow cars to 35 m.p.h. or under.

Hall said his concern is that when there is a new police chief one day and a new council with the law on the books, they might enforce it more strictly.

Council member Margaret Metcalf agreed that the idea was good, but she thinks it&39;s less safe with traffic going slower on the stretch.

Hall&squo;s suggestion last week was to increase the limit back to 35 m.p.h. from near Food Lion to the roundabouts and to leave the limit at 25 m.p.h. through town.

Council will hold a public hearing next month and have Chief Kennedy available.
