Saluda public safety commissioner Johnnie Kinard says about 20 golf carts and some utility trailers have been recovered with arrests made in the South Carolina counties. The suspects were selling golf carts to a person just outside Saluda who was selling the stolen golf carts to area individuals, according to officials.

Chief Lindsey was publicly commended this week for her assistance in the golf cart ring bust. At the Saluda Board of Commissioners meeting Monday, Kinard read two letters of commendation from the Florence County and Darlington County, S.C. sheriff&squo;s offices thanking Lindsey for her work (see page 6).

&dquo; Our police chief was primarily responsible for breaking up a ring of stolen golf carts,&dquo; Kinard told city council.

Lindsey says she and Det. Jerad McFalls with the Polk County Sheriff&squo;s Office worked with South Carolina authorities on the investigation.

&dquo;I extend my greatest appreciation to the Town of Saluda and Chief Lindsey for her assistance above and beyond for bringing a closure to this case which has been a long drawn out investigation,&dquo; said Investigator Jim Goins with the Darlington County Sheriff&squo;s Office.

The Polk County Sheriff&squo;s Office was called late last month by the Darlington and Florence County Sheriff&squo;s Office regarding possible stolen golf carts in the county. The sheriff&squo;s office is still investigating the person who received the stolen golf carts and will bring charges if warranted, Lindsey said.
