Born in Timmonsville, S.C. he was the son of the late Simon Vivian Ward Sr. and Grace Bethea Ward. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy. Dr. Ward did his undergraduate studies at LSU and also graduated from LSU Medical School.

He is survived by: his wife, Sloan Hawkins Ward; two sons, Simon Ward III and his wife Sherry of Charlotte, N.C.; George L. H. Ward and his wife Ysonde of Pass Christian, Miss.; one daughter, Lisa Connors and her husband Kevin of Bronxville, N.Y. Also surviving are seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008 at 9 a.m. in Tryon Presbyterian Church, with Dr. James C. McPherson and Rev. Ralph Kuether officiating.

Burial will be in Byrd Cemetery in Timmonsville, S.C.
