Irene Summey

Born in Coventry, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Pete and Gertrude Warner Parenteau. She had lived in Tryon since 1947 and was the retired secretary of the ABC board for the Town of Tryon after 30 years of service. Mrs. Summey was a member of the Tryon United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Samuel A. Summey; three daughters, Sandra Whatley of Hendersonville; Linda Vaughan of Greenville, S.C., and Sheri Conrad of Huntersville, N.C.; a brother, Robert Parenteau of Coventry, R.I.&bsp; Also surviving are five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Langlais and Norma Parenteau.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2008 in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, with Rev. Neil Haynes officiating.
