He was a son of the late John and Phyllis Twitty Hines and a member of Stony Knoll CME Church, where he served as a trustee, lay council, and groundskeeper. Mr. Hines was employed by Henson Construction Company.

He is survived by his wife, Inez Logan Hines of the home; five sons, Edward D. Hines, Dethaniel Hines, and Patrick Hines, all of Mill Spring, Lonnie Hines of Forest City, and Frederick Hines of Spindale; four daughters, Paulfinuel Hines and Lorraine Hines of Rutherfordton, Sirvinel Petty of Forest City, and Selena Henderson of Charlotte; two sisters, Aletha Carson of Rutherfordton and Thelma Foster of Tryon; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Grove AME Zion Church, with the Revs. Rob Roy Staley and Paul Miller officiating. Burial was in the Stony Knoll CME Church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Stony Knoll CME Church, P.O. Box 83, Mill Spring, N.C. 28756.
