Catherine Nicholson

Born in Burlington, N.C., March 14, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Ernest O. and Madeline Pryor Steinbach. She received a bachelor&squo;s degree in 1949 from Agnes Scott College and received her master&squo;s of Christian education degree from Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University in 1954. Her career of service to others began with the American Red Cross during WWII and continued throughout her life. In recognition of her lifelong devotion to charitable work she was a recipient of the Jefferson Award, which is given by WFBC-TV.

She was a longtime member of Church of the Resurrection, Episcopal in Greenwood and attended the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Saluda.

Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are a daughter, Susan T. Parke of Asheville; two sons, William H. Nicholson III of Greenwood and Stuart W. Nicholson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three grandchildren. Mrs. Nicholson was predeceased by her first husband, the Reverend Frederick H. Parke, and by a brother, Stuart Wylie Steinbach.

Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 at Main Street United Methodist Church, Greenwood, with Reverend Nicholas Beasley and Reverend James D. Dennis, Jr. officiating.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Saluda.
