Victor Wooten Tryon is full of star power this weekend. The stage of the Tryon Fine Arts Center has been transformed into an oversized junkyard playground for Andrew Lloyd Webber&squo;s Tony award winning musical CATS. The Tryon Little Theatre/Tryon Youth Center teen musical directed by Chris Tinkler is the perfect vehicle to highlight the amazingly talented youth of our area. To pull this off, a wonderful team of artists have devoted their summer to helping these teens. Peeking in to give a helping had with make-up, I observed Kathleen Carson adding some last minute polish to the dance numbers while Susie Kocher offered final vocal coaching. Sherry Carter and Lynn Costine were touching up the delightful costumes as Peggy and Charlie Hunnicutt crafted the hair and wigs to complete the look. Sam Lovelace offered a make-up workshop to the parent volunteers who will be painting her cat face designs onto faces each night. But, as Jimm Brink changes the theatre lighting to draw the audience into a nighttime junkyard cat playground, it&squo;s the teens prowling around the stage that will win your heart with their performances in this energetic show. But wait, there&squo;s more. On the other side of town tonight, more stars will shine at the Tryon Arts & Crafts Center. The Earth School&squo;s Richard Cleveland welcomes four time Grammy award winning Bass player Victor Wooten (of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones) with the &dquo;grandfather of the electric bass&dquo; Chuck Rainey, Spartanburg guitarist Shane Pruitt, keyboard sensation Jim Peterman, Grammy nominated Bottleneck Dobro player Mars Fariss, drummer George Waterman, and Josh Phillips. Tickets for this alcohol free fundraising event are only available at door and seating is limited. All proceeds will be donated to FENCE and Victor Wooten&squo;s Music & Nature Camp. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the performance will run from 8-11 p.m. By Friday night you may want to get out and be creative yourself. Try joining in the Pickin&squo; Parlor at the Gallery Coffeehouse on Trade Street in Tryon from 8-10 p.m. Or, if you feel like dancing your blues away, catch the tight groovin&squo; music of Red Dog and the Dog Fight Blues Band at Elmo&39;s Too in Columbus this Friday at 8:30 p.m. If you feel like getting away from town, why not check out the fifth annual Taterfest?&bsp; This home grown festival takes place Friday and Saturday at Plum Hollow Farm 5015 Rainbow Lake Road in Campobello, SC. The event is sponsored by the southern rockabilly band TATER which has been thrilling audiences with their high energy shows on the regional circuit. Joining them on the stage will be&bsp;many rising acts on regional tours including: South-85, Bo-Stevens, Micheal Reno Harrell, Moon Shine Babies, David Via & Curtis Burch, and many more.&bsp;The festival pass&bsp;includes camping and the gates open Friday at 1 p.m. If you enjoy old-time strings playing Appalachian music with new flair, venture up to the Purple Onion on Saturday night for a lively show from Knoxville, Tennessee&squo;s The LoneTones at 8 p.m. Over at Saluda Mountain Jamboree you will be rockin&squo; and rollin&squo; Saturday night from 8-11 p.m. with Southern Pointe and a special visit from the Austin Healey Car Club.
