Born June 25, 1944, in Providence, R.I., he was the son of the late Sidney and Jessica Goldman August. A 1967 graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Service and Hotel Administration, he received a Masters degree in Hospital Administration from George Washington University in 1971. He retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital System in 2004 after 33 years of service. He loved to travel.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Parsons August; a sister, Geraldine McClure of Galt, Calif.; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and Jane Parsons of Boiling Springs, S.C., Brian and Barbara Parsons of Florida, and Marcia and Thomas Veeder of Avon, N.Y.; nieces and nephews, Danette Voegeli-Sidhu, Matthew Parsons, Melissa Parsons, Thomas Veeder, Karen Veeder, Sarah Veeder, Williams Parsons, and Jessica Parsons; and a great-nephew, Zak Sidhu.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Floyd&squo;s Greenlawn Chapel conducted by Rabbi Yossi Liebowitz. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service at the home.
