Born in Evanston, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Henry Minor and Carroll Coleman Huxley. She attended Roycemore, Sweet Briar College where she was very active in the alumni association and Mt. Vernon College at George Washington University. As a resident of Tryon since 1947, Mrs. Dick was the widow of Robert L. Dick, who died in 1971. A member of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross in Tryon, she served in multiple capacities, including being the first woman in the Diocese of Western North Carolina to serve on an Episcopal vestry and to be the first female senior warden in the diocese. She founded the altar guild of Holy Cross Church and served on the flower guild. She also served as a board member on the Episcopal Foundation of the Diocese of Western North Carolina. Mrs. Dick helped establish Planned Parenthood of Western North Carolina, especially in Polk County. She worked with the founders of the Polk County Community Foundation, serving on the first board of directors. She founded the Yellow Smock program of St. Luke&squo;s Hospital that later became the Candy Stripes. She also was a founder of the visiting nurse program in Polk County, many of whose duties have been taken over by Hospice.

Surviving are two sons, Robert L. Dick III and Edward H. Dick both of Tryon; one daughter, Harriet Dick Brown of Greenville. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A daughter, Carroll Dick Ridley, and a son, William D. Dick, predeceased her.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 in The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross in Tryon, with Rev. Dr. Michael Doty officiating.

Interment will follow in The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross Memorial Garden.

Family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. following the service at &dquo;Carrollwood,&dquo; 766 Carolina Drive, Tryon, N.C.
