A native of Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Reverend Jesse and Ellen Godfrey. He attended Roebuck High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He worked in the aircraft industry and the U.S. Post Office. He retired from LA Gauge Co. of Sunland, Calif.

Survivors include his daughters, Rita Bailey of Pleasanton, Calif., Donna Blankenship of Hesperia, Calif.; two sisters, Janice Hazlett of Campobello, Martha Griffett of Inman; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Owens of Inman.

A memorial service will be held on June 16, 2008 at Vineyard Church of God, 251 South Blackstock Road, Spartanburg, S.C., at 2 p.m. Rev. Roger Allison will officiate.
