She was the widow of the late William Heyward Allen and daughter of the late Ben and Emma Rudisal Coley. She attended Campobello High School and graduated from Asheville Teachers College. She taught elementary school in Spartanburg and Greenville counties for 30 years. She was a lifelong active member of Motlow Creek Baptist Church, where she taught the Ladies Sunday School Class and distributed tapes to the shut-ins for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Hamrick of Morganton, N.C., Barbara Allen of Georgetown, S.C.; a son, Benny Allen of Campobello; a grandson, Bryan Allen of Asheville; three step grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Kenneth Hamrick; a brother, Harry Ray Coley and a sister, Wilma Brooks.

Graveside services were held Saturday June 7, 2008 at Motlow Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Allison Richardson and Rev. Henry Farmer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, N.C. 28722 or Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, S.C. 29304.
