Bricks from a historic sidewalk dating back to 1923 discovered recently may be part of a future &dquo;walk of fame&dquo; in the town.

The Town of Tryon was replacing sidewalks on Melrose Avenue when the bricks turned up, along with an idea.

Dr. Crys Armbrust, Tryon&squo;s Small Town Main Street Program Director, told the town council last week that town leaders have been talking for years about having a &dquo;walk of fame&dquo; with names of famous people who used to frequent Tryon, such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Lady Astor, David Niven, Grace Coolidge and many others.

&dquo;We&squo;ve talked for a number of years about having a Tryon walk of fame and it seems prudent to utilize the very bricks upon which these famed individuals walked,&dquo; Armbrust said.

There were about 2,600 bricks uncovered underneath the more modern sidewalk in the first stretch of sidewalk replacement.

Armbrust said he hopes the town will find even more underneath another stretch of sidewalk yet to be uncovered.

Armbrust said it is his hope sometime in the future to see the town place a walk of fame sidewalk somewhere downtown.
