Mr. Horton was born in Inman on September 22, 1945, the son of the late LeRoy and Donalie (Hudgins) Horton.

He was employed as a homebuilder and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Cathy Douglas of Boiling Springs; one son, Dale Horton of Spartanburg; a step-son, Ryan Dumars of Spartanburg; two step-daughters, Margeaux Dumars of Inman and Nichole Speaks of Wilmington, N.C.; two brothers, Ronald Horton of Inman, and Eugene Howell of Campobello; one sister, Jean Edwards of Inman; step-mother, Azalee Howell of Inman and a longtime loving companion, Judy Dumars. Other survivors include six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Reginald Horton.

Graveside services were held Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Donnan Lawson officiating.
