Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of the late Howard Charles and Anne MacLean Balme. He was a veteran of Korea, having served in the U.S. Army Corp Engineers, Amphibious Division. Mr. Balme was the editor of the Polk County News Journal for 16 years. He was the husband of Olga D. Balme, who died in 1995.

Surviving is his son, Robert Balme Jr.and wife Mary of Webster, N.Y. Also surviving are Lisa and Rob Balme of Webster, N.Y.

No services will be held.
