Born in Springfield, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Fred W. and Helen Schuessler James. She moved to the Carolinas in 2004, coming from Geneva, Ill. She was the widow of Wallace F. Phelps, who died in 1984.

Surviving are: a son, Jim W. Phelps (Tracy) of Paw Paw, Ill.; a daughter, Katie Warren of Upstate, S.C.; a granddaughter, Nancy Elliott and three great-grandchildren, Heidi, Hailey and Hannah Elliott. Mrs. Phelps was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Phelps, who died in 1985.

There will be no local services.
