Born in 1911, she was the widow of the late Thomas Alfred Gilliam Sr. and the daughter of the late John and Carrie Moss Poag. Mrs. Gilliam was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Columbus Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Alfred Gilliam Jr. of Havertown, Pa.; a daughter, Sarah Susanne Hurst of Spartanburg; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel at 3 p.m. Monday, April 28, conducted by Rev. Susan Moorefield Newton and Mr. Mike Daniel. Interment followed in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one&squo;s choice.
