A native of York County, S.C, son of the late Robert Lee and Annie Elizabeth Dunlap Pope, he was formerly employed with Nordic and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two brothers, Robert Larry Pope of Greer and Marion Arnold Pope of Campobello; a sister, Kay Elizabeth Tucker of Greer; and a family friend, Mary Hindman&bsp; of Greer.
