He was a native of Mt. Holly and was the son of the late Noah H. Huffstetler Sr. and Ida Lee Huffstetler. He was also the husband of Ruth Bumgardner Huffstetler.

Mr. Huffstetler was a member of First Baptist Church of Belmont, where he was a long-time usher. He was a star athlete at Mt. Holly High School in the late 1930s in baseball, football and boxing. This is where he earned the nickname &uot;Smokey.&uot; He was a member of the Belmont Optimist Club and very active in the Mt. Holly chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II as a medical corpsman; attaining the rank of sergeant. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart after landing in Normandy and being wounded at St. Lo, France. He worked for different stores in retail clothing sales including Gentlemen Clothier at Gaston Mall. He also worked in Cramerton for 14 years as a life insurance agent.

Local survivors are a niece, Diana Bumgardner Salinas of Sunny View, and a nephew, Spencer Bumgardner of Landrum.

The funeral took place Friday, April 11, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Belmont. Interment was in Hillcrest Gardens, Mt. Holly, with military honors by WWII Last Man Club of Gaston County. Rev. Robert Baker officiated.
