The Foothills gymnasts competed against teams from Tennessee, Virginia, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and North Carolina. Level 8 gymnast Alyssa Edney competed on Saturday at 3 p.m. The highlight of Edney&squo;s competition was the bar exercise, where she scored 9.35, which earned her first place and the gold medal.

&dquo;She really hit her bar routine,&dquo; coach Jana Williamson said. &dquo;She had beautiful giant swings and lay full dismount which she nailed.&dquo;

On the floor exercise Edney finished 8th with a score 9.05. In the all around competition Edney finished sixth with a score 34.40. Edney&squo;s the daughter of Debra and John Edney of Tryon.

The second day of competition was busy for the Foothills gymnasts. Paris Lane, Julianna Robbins and Kaitlyn Spring and Level 3 gymnast Savannah Robbins and Chastin Smith competed on Sunday.

Lane, 9, was crowned champion of the Gatlinburg Classic Invitational. She won the all-around competition with a score of 36.675 and brought home the first place trophy. Lane also won first and gold medal on the vault with a score 9.425 and first place on the balance beam with a score 9.10. She also finished the floor routine with a score of 9.00 for third place, wining a bronze medal and she also finished third on balance beam with a score 8.150. Lane is a daughter of Sue and Grand Lane of Mill Spring.

Jullianna Robbins, 7, really showed her beautiful artistry in her floor routine and she placed first with a score 9.25. Williamson said. She also won first place and gold medal on bars with a score 8.95. On balance beam she finished third. Robbins finished third all-around with a score of 35.10. She is the daughter of Joy and Arthur Robbins of Columbus.

Kaitlyn Spring, 8, won the silver medal on the vault. She finished second with a score of 9.325 and brought home the silver medal. On floor, she scored 8.85 for fourth place. All around, Spring finished fourth with a score of 32.775. She&bsp; is a daughter of Beth and Keith Spring of Landrum.

Savannah Robbins, 9, scored a career high 9.60 on the vault, which earned her second place and a silver medal. She finished fifth on beam with a score 9.20 and also fifth on bars with a score 8.35. On the floor exercise, Robbins scored 8.70 to finished eleventh. In all around competition she finished fifth with a score 35.85. She is the daughter of Joy and Arthur Robbins of Columbus.

Chastin Smith, 10, competed on her birthday and she scored her highest score on the vault 9.30, finishing third. She scored 9.25 for the fifth place on her floor routine. Smith finished seventh with a score of 35.275 all-around. Chastin started gymnastics only eleven months ago and she already competed in three meets for Foothills Gymnastics, Williamson said. She is the daughter of Mellissa and Jeremy Smith of Columbus.

Level 4 gymnasts Colleen Burke and Julia Skellie competed Sunday afternoon. Burke, 9, competed in the 9-year-old division, where she finished ninth all around with a score 35.10. She placed sixth on the vault with a score 9.25 and sixth on the floor exercise with a score 9.25.

&dquo;Colleen&squo;s age division was very hard and every competing gymnast was very good,&dquo; Williamson said.

She is the daughter of Julie and Pat Burke of Tryon.

Skellie , 11, competed in her age group, and finished fourth all-around with a score 35.350. Skellie&squo;s best events were floor exercise and vault. She scored 9.125 in her floor exercise, and it was third place, receiving a bronze medal. Skellie scored 9.475 on the vault, finishing fourth and she scored 8.80 on the balance beam to finished eighth. She is the daughter of Caroline and Dave Skellie of
Landrum.
